Cala de Santa Ponsa is a large bay with rocky headlands on both sides. The main attraction is the 900 m long sandy beach, at the end of the bay in front of the holiday resort of the same name. It is up to 50 m wide and is divided in the middle by a park-like pine grove. On the northern shore there are a number of mid-range hotels. On the rocky headlands on both sides of the bay there are a number of villas belonging to wealthy Europeans who have a second home in Santa Ponsa. The island’s capital, Palma de Mallorca, is about 20 km east of Santa Ponsa. It takes about 25 minutes to get to the city centre by rental car. The fastest way is to take the MA-1 motorway, which is six lanes wide in some sections. Free and paid parking is available around Santa Ponsa.

The fine sandy beach at Santa Ponsa

The fine sandy Playa de Santa Ponsa is the jewel of the resort. Although the beach is divided into two sections, the warm Mediterranean sun’s rays shine on both sides equally. The water glitters turquoise in the bright sunshine and gently rippling waves lap on to the shore. The sheltered location in the bay is relatively free of waves. In addition, the entire beach descends shallowly into the water, so that even smaller children can safely splash around, under parental supervision, at the water's edge.
