Description
The Ajuntament de Porreres is the town hall and municipal governing body of the inland Mallorcan village of Porreres.
The Building and Its History
The town hall stands on the Plaça de la Vila, giving the square a striking focal point. The building was once owned by monks and served as the lodging house of the Possessió dels Monjos — in 1939 the local council acquired it and made it their seat of government. The entrance hall displays traditional giant and big-head figures, and the building is considered to be in excellent condition.
Responsibilities & Services
The Ajuntament is the central point of contact for all civic matters in Porreres — from town planning and building permits to land registry and other municipal services. The website porreres.cat is available in Catalan, English, Castilian Spanish, and German.
Location & Surroundings
The town hall sits directly on the Plaça de la Vila, the main market square at the heart of Porreres. The square forms the centrepiece of the historic village centre. A weekly market takes place on the square on Tuesday mornings — refreshingly untouristy and well worth a visit if you're exploring the village and its historic centre.
