Àrea recreativa del Puig de Bonany

Description

The Àrea Recreativa del Puig de Bonany is a recreational area at the summit of the Puig de Bonany, near Petra in the heart of Mallorca.

Views, peace and picnics at the summit

The Puig de Bonany offers sweeping 360-degree views across large parts of the Pla de Mallorca. The area is a wonderful spot to linger: shady picnic areas with stone tables are dotted throughout, and a generous outdoor space gives children plenty of room to run around. The surroundings are well kept and clean, and the atmosphere is wonderfully calm and quiet.

A small church with a rich history

At the summit stands a small church with real historical and spiritual character, well worth a look inside. If you'd like to take a memento home, souvenirs are available to purchase through a side door.

On foot, by bike or by car

The ascent is short and manageable whether you're on foot or in the saddle — both walking and cycling routes lead up the hill. For road cyclists, the climb is brief with a punchy ramp thrown in, and the descent can be taken at a fair pace; the road surface is decent, though the road itself is fairly narrow. If you'd rather take it easy, driving up is always an option.

Location & surroundings

The area sits atop the Puig de Bonany, close to the village of Petra (postcode 07520), between Vilafranca and Petra. Parking is available at the summit. On busier days things can get a little livelier, so an early visit is well worth it if you're after some peace and quiet.
