Description
Base Aèria de Pollença is an active military airbase of the Spanish Air Force, situated in Port de Pollensa right on the seafront.
A Military Base with an Operational Mission
The base is home to the Canadair firefighting aircraft — the CL-215T and CL-415 — operated by the 43rd Group of the Ejército del Aire. Their core duties include combating wildfires, particularly during the summer campaign season, as well as search-and-rescue (SAR) operations and maritime rescue exercises. The base therefore plays a strategic role in fire protection across Mallorca and the western Mediterranean.
History & Significance
Carrying the ICAO code LEPO, the base has a long and distinguished military history. It is a defining part of Port de Pollensa's local story — former personnel describe it as a place where entire chapters of their lives were lived.
Access & Grounds
Access to the site is restricted; a valid ID or pass is required to enter. During air shows, however, the grounds are open to the general public. The site itself is characterised by sea views, mountain panoramas and well-kept facilities. A seaplane museum is also located on the premises.
Location
The base sits on Calle Carretera de Formentor, s/n, in Port de Pollensa (07470), in the north of Mallorca.
