Cala Bóquer
Description
Cala Bóquer is a secluded pebble cove near Pollença in the north of Mallorca, reachable only on foot and best known as the destination of a walk through a wonderfully wild and rugged valley.
Walking Through the Valley
The route to Cala Bóquer winds through a valley of striking rock formations, sheer cliffs and raw, unspoilt scenery. Along the way you'll spot ancient rock formations and the remains of old stone walls. There's little to no shade on the path, so bring plenty of water and wear sturdy footwear. The final descent to the cove is the most demanding stretch and requires sure footing on loose rock. If you're thinking of cycling there, the track simply isn't suitable for bikes.
The Cove
Cala Bóquer is a sheltered cove with clear, blue water that's ideal for snorkelling. The beach is made up of pebbles and rocks, so a pair of water shoes is a sensible idea. The stony ground makes it impossible to set up a sun lounger or beach umbrella. The water is calm, and the cove has no road access and no buildings — it can only be reached on foot or by boat.
Free-Roaming Goats Along the Way
Throughout the valley you'll hear and see free-roaming goats — on the path itself and right down at the beach. The animals are used to people and show no fear whatsoever. If you've got food with you, keep your bag closed, as the goats are more than happy to help themselves.
Location & Getting There
Cala Bóquer lies near Pollença (07460) in the north of Mallorca. The walk starts from a car park close to Port de Pollença. At the beginning of the route you'll pass through two iron gates on a private estate; according to the landowner, dogs are not permitted on the property — even on a lead. The car park at the starting point has been noted for litter in the surrounding area.
