Cala Brafi
Description
Cala Brafi is a secluded natural cove on Mallorca's east coast, not far from Portocolom.
The Cove
This U-shaped cove combines fine sand with scattered stones and rocks. The water is crystal clear and calm — both qualities make it a much-loved spot for swimming and snorkelling, where you can watch fish darting just beneath the surface. There's no infrastructure to speak of: no kiosk, no restaurant, no showers, no toilets, no sun-lounger hire. That's entirely the point, not a shortcoming.
Getting There & the Walk Down
A small car park marks the end of the tarmac road. From there, a rough track leads down to the cove — sturdy footwear is essential, as the path crosses stones and low walls. The drive here isn't the easiest to navigate; parking on the road risks a fine. There are no signposted routes to the beach, and the cove is not accessible for those with limited mobility. If you fancy a longer outing, you can also reach Cala Brafi as part of a coastal walk from Cala Marçal — along the way you may well come across sheep and goats.
Atmosphere & Character
Peace and seclusion are what define this cove. The surrounding rocks, cliffs and pine trees give it a wild, unspoilt feel. Cala Brafi is nudist-friendly; naturists and clothed bathers share the beach without any fuss. Locals are fond of the spot too, particularly at weekends.
A Note on Cleanliness
Seaweed, washed-up litter and plastic can affect the bathing experience depending on weather conditions. It's well worth taking your own rubbish away when you leave — and if you can manage a little extra, even better.
