Cala Figuera (Formentor)
Description
Cala Figuera is an unspoilt cove on the Formentor Peninsula within the municipality of Pollença, reached on foot via a path from the car park or from the road.
The Cove
Crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic cliffs, mountains and a rugged, wild landscape define Cala Figuera. The beach itself is narrow and covered with stones and pebbles, and seaweed may be present along the shoreline. The calm water is well suited to snorkelling — fish are plentiful. Pine trees provide patches of shade. Free-roaming goats are a permanent fixture of the cove; anyone bringing food should keep it well secured, as the animals can be remarkably persistent.
Getting There
The cove sits within the municipality of Pollença (07460). A descent of around 15 to 20 minutes leads down to the beach; the path is rocky and threaded with roots, so sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. The car park can be steep in places and has speed bumps, and by midday it may already be full. Travelling by bus is a practical alternative to arriving by car.
Views & Character
The view looking down over the cove — turquoise water nestled between cliffs — is widely regarded as one of the highlights of a visit. Despite sometimes busy periods, such as August, Cala Figuera feels comparatively peaceful thanks to its pebble beach and the effort required to reach it, especially when set against the more easily accessible beaches in the area.
