Cala Gamba
Description
Cala Gamba is a small bay with a beach and promenade in the suburb of Coll d'en Rabassa, south-east of Palma.
Bay, Promenade & Harbour
The heart of Cala Gamba is less the small beach itself and more the sweeping promenade that lines the bay. It's a lovely spot for a stroll, a jog or a bike ride, and connects the bay via the coastal path to Es Carnatge and Palma. Sitting within the bay is the marina of the Club Náutico Cala Gamba — the sight of motor boats and sailing boats at anchor sets the tone and makes this a thoroughly pleasant place for anyone who enjoys a nautical atmosphere. Bars and restaurants dot the promenade, offering plenty of spots to sit back and watch the world go by.
Views Across the Whole Bay of Palma
The panoramic view across the Bay of Palma is what Cala Gamba is particularly prized for — on a clear day the vista stretches far across the bay. Come evening, as the light drops lower, the scene becomes especially impressive. The bay is noticeably quieter than the long tourist beaches further east, and as the season winds down, the promenade becomes wonderfully peaceful.
Getting There
Cala Gamba sits in Coll d'en Rabassa, around nine kilometres from Palma city centre, and is well connected by public transport. If you're staying nearby, you can also reach the bay on foot along the coastal path that links Palma with Es Carnatge.
Who It's For & What to Bring
The promenade is particularly popular with couples, joggers and cyclists, as well as dog owners — there's a dedicated area where dogs are welcome on the beach. On sunny days the waterfront gets a good crowd, but if you're after peace and quiet, the shoulder season is the time to visit.
