Cala Torta
Description
Cala Torta is a natural beach on Mallorca's north-east coast, nestled within an unspoilt landscape of rugged rocks and rolling hills.
Water, Sand and Wild Nature
The sandy beach sits within a sheltered bay of crystal-clear, turquoise water. Rocky cliffs and the surrounding hillside define the scenery. Seaweed can wash ashore in northerly winds or heavier swell — a perfectly natural part of this wild spot.
Snorkelling and Swimming
The clear water makes for wonderful snorkelling. The bay also offers appealing conditions for swimmers, though those who prefer calmer water should assess conditions before heading in.
Location and Getting There
Cala Torta lies in the north-east of Mallorca, just north of Artà. The access road is signposted, but the final stretch is in poor condition. Vehicles must be left at the end of the road, from where it is roughly a 15-to-30-minute walk to the beach — sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Alternatively, the bay can be reached via a coastal path from Cala Mesquida.
No Facilities On-Site
There is no restaurant, no toilets and no sunbed hire at the beach. A lifeguard is occasionally present. If you need refreshments, bring everything with you.
Who Is It Suited To?
Cala Torta appeals to those in search of peace and unspoilt nature. The journey requires walking in both directions, and the uphill return calls for a reasonable level of fitness. Families with children are very welcome, but should factor in the lack of facilities and the walk.
