A quiet cove in the nature reserve

Caló d'en Perdiu sits tucked inside the Parc Natural de Mondragó — a compact, rock-fringed cove with no sandy beach to speak of. You enter the water directly from the rocks, and a small set of steps on the right-hand side makes getting in a little easier. The water is crystal clear, which makes the cove a real treat for snorkelling. Without a promenade or beach facilities, it stays noticeably quieter than the island's busier spots, even at the height of summer. Do watch your footing on the uneven rocky surface. The cove can occasionally be closed temporarily to allow the natural environment to recover.

Finding your way there

The Catalan word perdiu means "partridge" or "quail". The cove lies roughly five kilometres south-east of the town of Santanyí. The route follows the coastline through the nature reserve, passing through typical Mediterranean scrubland and maquis. From the nearby pay-and-display car park, it's just a short walk down to the water's edge.
