Description

Can Forteza Rey is a historic building in the heart of Palma, showcasing Mallorcan Modernisme at its finest — an architectural landmark with one of the most photographed façades in the city.

A Façade Defined by Modernisme

Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the building stands as one of the most striking examples of Catalan Modernisme on Mallorca. Its elaborate façade dazzles with ceramic mosaics, polychrome tiles, wrought-iron balconies, sculptural ornamentation and sweeping curved forms — a style many visitors immediately associate with the work of Antoni Gaudí. Dragon figures and grotesque sculptural elements give the frontage its unmistakable character.

Freshly Restored

Following a comprehensive restoration of the façade — a project that took around thirteen months and was completed in 2022 — Can Forteza Rey shines once more. The building has also been a protected cultural asset (Bien de Interés Cultural) since 1990.

Right in the Heart of the Old Town

Can Forteza Rey stands at Plaça del Marquès del Palmer 1 in Palma's Centre district, surrounded by other historic buildings in the heart of the old town. The entrance is fully accessible.

On the Ground Floor: Bakery and Café

The ground floor is home to a bakery and café, well known for its ensaimadas and coffee — a lovely spot to linger whether you choose to sit inside or out.
