Description

Carnaje Park (Parc des Carnatge) is a coastal nature reserve in Can Pastilla, set right on the Bay of Palma.

Nature between rock and sea

This stretch of coastline is a lovely mix of small sandy coves, rocky sections and natural pools. Because building restrictions around the nearby airport's flight path kept development at bay, a comparatively unspoilt piece of coast with natural vegetation has been preserved here. You can also spot a ruin along the way.

Walking, cycling and sunbathing

A paved coastal path with its own dedicated cycle lane runs through the park, making it equally well suited to walking, jogging and cycling. Benches dotted along the route invite you to stop and take it all in. Getting into the water means clambering over rocks, so it's a bit more of an adventure than a sandy beach — but those who don't mind that will find quieter bathing spots and great snorkelling. Shade is fairly sparse throughout the park, which is worth bearing in mind on hot days.

A dog-friendly stretch of coast

Part of the park is designated as a dog beach, where dogs are welcome to run free and splash in the sea all year round. That makes Parc des Carnatge one of the very few places near Palma where this is possible.

Views and aircraft

From the shoreline, the view sweeps across the Bay of Palma all the way to the Cathedral. Sunset moments here are consistently spectacular. Aviation enthusiasts are in for a treat, too — planes fly in very low directly over the park, a natural consequence of the proximity to Son Sant Joan Airport.

Location and getting there

The park is situated along Platja de Palma in Can Pastilla (07610). Parking is available nearby, though it can be harder to find at weekends and during the peak summer months.
