Description
The Castell de Capdepera is a historic castle monument in Capdepera, in the north-east of Mallorca.
Layout and Character
This 14th-century castle sits high above the old town of Capdepera and can be spotted from a great distance. Within its well-preserved walls you'll find informative historical panels, a small exhibition area dedicated to the traditional craft of weaving with palm leaves, and a chapel housing a statue of the Virgin Mary that exudes a quietly special atmosphere. Most of the explanatory texts are also available in German.
The View
From the highest point of the site, the views stretch out over the town of Capdepera, across the inland hills and down to the coast. On a clear day, you can even make out the island of Menorca on the horizon.
Location & Getting There
The castle is located on Carrer Castell, s/n in Capdepera. The walk up through the narrow lanes of the old town is steep and involves steps. Free parking is available in the town and in the surrounding area, from where the castle is easily reached on foot. The path up to the entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
Good to Know
Entry is paid by card only — cash is not accepted. Within the grounds there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet as well as accessible seating. The site is well suited to families with children.
