Description

Castillo de San Carlos is a historic fortress and military history museum in the Ponent district of Palma.

Military History Up Close

Inside the well-preserved complex you'll find an extensive collection of military artefacts: historic weapons, swords, daggers, cannonballs, uniforms and artillery — each displayed with informative contextual notes. The exhibition is spread across several rooms, making it easy to explore at your own pace. Artistic sculptures on the grounds outside add a further dimension to the visit.

Panoramic Views over Palma and the Bay

From the Castillo you're treated to sweeping views across Palma, the harbour, the bay and the city skyline — a prospect well worth the trip even if military history isn't your thing. The on-site café has a terrace where you can take in exactly the same view at your leisure.

The Fortress and Its Grounds

The star-shaped fortress, complete with its defensive ramparts and cannons, is in excellent condition and easy to read as a whole when you're there in person. The grounds are well kept, and sculptures by the artist Joan Bennasar are dotted among the green spaces.

Peaceful and Pleasantly Uncrowded

Compared with Palma's busier central attractions, the atmosphere here is calm and relaxed — even during peak season. If you're looking to escape the crowds, that's a genuine advantage.

Location and Getting Here

The Castillo is located in Ponent, Palma, at Castell de Sant Carles. Free parking is available on site, including accessible spaces. The entrance is fully step-free.
