Cavall Bernat is a hiking destination and natural landmark in the north of Mallorca, renowned for its demanding ridge walk and far-reaching panoramic views.
The Ascent
The route up Cavall Bernat is only rudimentarily waymarked: instead of signposted paths, cairns point the way — and even these aren't always easy to follow. The rocks are exceptionally sharp-edged, so a slip is genuinely painful. The ascent takes roughly one and a half to two hours. At around the halfway point there's an opportunity to turn back early if you'd rather not continue; those who press on reach the ridge itself, which demands sure-footedness and a head for heights. The route is considered moderate to difficult and is not suitable for complete beginners. The mountain can get very hot in the height of summer, and you should expect wind at the top. Don't attempt the ascent in wet weather.
Views & Experience
Once you reach the top, a truly impressive panorama opens up before you. Set off early in the morning while it's still cool and you'll often have the views entirely to yourself. Watching the sunrise from the summit is considered particularly rewarding.

Kit & Tips
Sturdy footwear is absolutely essential, and long trousers will protect your legs from the jagged rocks. During the summer months, make sure you carry plenty of water. A map or walking guide is well worth bringing, as navigating without marked trails can be genuinely challenging.
