Description
The parish church of Santa Catalina Thomàs is a Catholic church in the Ensanche district of Palma, dedicated to the Mallorcan saint Santa Catalina Thomàs.
Interior & Religious Heritage
The interior of the church is lovingly maintained and richly appointed: a particularly beautiful altar, religious paintings — including works by Pau Lluís Fornés — along with relics of Saint Catalina Thomàs and Blessed Sister Francinaina Cirer, make this a place of living Mallorcan devotion. Despite a relatively modest number of sacred images, the interior exudes a quiet, contemplative atmosphere that invites prayer and reflection.
Community & Worship
The parish is one of the largest by membership in Palma and draws a well-attended congregation on Sundays. Masses are celebrated in both Spanish and Catalan/Mallorcan. Music is provided by a group that plays and sings during the Eucharist. Parish priest Ramón is well regarded in the community for his thoughtful and deeply considered sermons.
History & Location
The church was built in 1941 on the Plaça de Santa Pagesa — having previously been housed on Carrer de Pons i Gallarza and later on Carrer de Alfons el Magnànim. The façade was completed in 1982. The address is Plaça de Santa Pagesa 5, in the Ensanche (Eixample) neighbourhood of Palma.
