Description
The Claustre de Sant Domingo is a historic monastery complex in Pollença, now used as a cultural centre for concerts, exhibitions and fairs.
A Historic Ensemble
The Dominican Order began construction of the complex in 1588, with the cloister completed in 1616. The Renaissance façade and its understated cloister draw visitors into an ensemble that encompasses the monastery church, the cloister itself and the Museu de Pollença. The monastery church now serves as an exhibition hall, and admission is free for at least a number of the exhibitions on show.
Concerts and Festivals
The Pollença Music Festival takes place here every summer, and the acoustics are particularly well suited to classical music — some performances are given without amplification, while the local council restricts traffic in the surrounding streets during events. Alongside the music festival, the cloister also hosts the Fira del Vi wine fair, where local winemakers present their wines.
Location & Getting There
The complex sits on Carrer de Guillem Cifre de Colonya in Pollença, right at the entrance to the town. Free on-street parking is available nearby, and accessible parking spaces are provided as well.
