Description

Coll de l'Ofre is a mountain pass and walking area in Escorca, set in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca.

Panorama between reservoir and summit

Coll de l'Ofre sits on the route up to Puig de l'Ofre and rewards you with sweeping views from both the pass and the summit: across the Cuber reservoir, Puig Major, the Sóller valley, and the sea. The landscape shifts between mountains, valleys, forests, and the reservoir, and along the way you're likely to encounter birds, sheep, goats, donkeys, horses, and cattle. The pass itself is a fine spot to rest; from here, those who fancy it can push on to the top.

Approach routes and trail character

There are several ways to reach Coll de l'Ofre and the summit. The approach from the Cuber reservoir is comparatively relaxed — it starts with a flat loop around the lake before the gradient increases, though the summit area does require a sure footing. The route from Sóller is considerably longer and more demanding, climbing almost continuously via cobbled steps whilst offering consistently lovely views down into the valley. Anyone walking the trail from Biniaraix to the Cuber reservoir will pass through the col as a matter of course. Signage can be patchy in the upper section, so sturdy footwear and plenty of water are absolutely essential.

Location & getting there

The walking area lies in the municipality of Escorca (07315), right in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana. Two car parks are available at the Cuber reservoir, one of which has toilet facilities and picnic tables.

Who is it suited to?

The route from the Cuber reservoir is suitable for older children and fit families; the final stretch to the summit is steeper and calls for a bit more stamina. The longer variant from Sóller requires a good level of fitness. Toddlers and very young children are not suited to this walk. Spring is a particularly pleasant time to visit.
