Description

The Coll de Puig Major is a mountain pass in the Serra de Tramuntana near Fornalutx.

A mountain road through the Tramuntana

The Ma-10 is considered the wildest road on the island, cutting across the entire Tramuntana mountain range. The stretch between Sóller and Lluc is the most dramatic of all: completed in 1961, it marked the final section of the Ma-10 to be finished. The challenging terrain made this a particularly demanding feat of engineering. Road cyclists and motorcyclists make excellent use of the pass.

Cycling & walking

For cyclists, the climb is a moderate challenge. Passing through the tunnel on a gentle descent actually offers a more impressive perspective than the summit area itself. Walking routes up Puig Major are not accessible without military authorisation.

Getting there

The pass is located near Fornalutx (07315) in the Balearic Islands — reached via the Ma-10.
