Description
The Columna de Santuario Siglos is a historic monument on the Ma-10 road in the Tramuntana mountains — situated right alongside the Almallutx reservoir.
The Monument and the Reservoir
The centrepiece of a visit here is a column that was reconstructed to prevent it from being submerged by the reservoir. The monument itself is relatively modest, but what truly defines the spot is its setting: the reservoir's water glows in a strikingly beautiful colour, nestled within the rugged Tramuntana mountain landscape. Swimming is not permitted. An old information sign is present on site, though it is difficult to read.
Views and Photography
The viewpoint overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains is the real highlight of the site, offering plenty of rewarding photo opportunities. Hiking trails run around the reservoir at altitude, making it a fine spot for a short walk. It also works very well as a stop with children in tow.
Getting There
The monument sits right on the Ma-10 at postcode 07315 on the Illes Balears. The drive from Pollença through the mountain scenery is a treat in itself. The spot lies en route to Sa Calobra and makes for a welcome breather after the many serpentine bends. One thing to bear in mind: cyclists are a regular presence on the Ma-10 and sometimes ride side by side, so a little extra care at the wheel goes a long way.
