Description
The Creu del Santuari de Lluc is a viewpoint and Stations of the Cross route above the pilgrimage monastery of Santuari de Lluc in Escorca, nestled within the Serra de Tramuntana in the north-west of Mallorca.
Stations of the Cross and Viewpoint
A cobbled path — known as the Camí dels Misteris — leads from the monastery up the Monte del Rosario. Along the way, five stone monuments mark the route before you reach the striking steel cross at the rocky summit. From the top, a sweeping panorama opens up across the entire valley basin and the surrounding Tramuntana mountains. The paths wind beneath holm oaks and are well maintained, making the circular walk a great option for a gentle hike.
A Place of Spiritual Significance
The Santuari de Lluc is a place of pilgrimage whose origins date back to the 13th century. At its heart is the veneration of the Mare de Déu de Lluc, known as the Blue Virgin. The monastery is home to the Escolania de Blauets, a celebrated boys' choir. The monastery bells ring out on the hour — a defining sound that stays with you long after your visit. Behind the monastery lies a garden well worth exploring.
A Mountain Setting
The Santuari de Lluc sits in a valley hollow in the municipality of Escorca in north-west Mallorca, surrounded by pine forests and the rocky formations of the Serra de Tramuntana. Parking is available at the monastery.
