Description

The Cuartel General Luque in Inca is a historic barracks complex that now serves as a socio-cultural centre, home to museums, local associations, and event spaces.

History and Character

The building opened in 1915 and was originally used as a military barracks. From 1960 to 1986 it was home to the X Light Cavalry Group — the last military unit ever to be stationed in Inca. The Guardia Civil subsequently took over the site before it was eventually repurposed as a public cultural centre. The complex comprises nine buildings, a perimeter wall, and a large central courtyard paved with cobblestones, all of which retain the unmistakable character of the original barracks to this day.

Museums and Cultural Use

Several museums and associations have made their home within the complex. The Shoe Museum is a particular highlight, dedicated to the history of shoemaking in Inca — a craft deeply woven into the town's identity. The site also hosts a wide variety of municipal activities and events throughout the year.

Events Venue

The Cuartel General Luque is a well-established venue for concerts, festivals, fairs, and cultural events. The site offers large halls, smaller workshop rooms, and outdoor spaces that lend themselves especially well to open-air occasions.

Location and Getting There

The complex is situated at Avinguda del General Luque 233 in Inca, close to the town centre and easy to spot just past the railway bridge. Parking in the surrounding area is straightforward, with free on-street spaces available nearby.
