Description
The Cultural Comercial Centre s'Escorxador in Palma brings together a cinema, library, bars, supermarket and city services — all under one roof of a landmark former slaughterhouse.
A Place with History
The building traces its roots back to Palma's old slaughterhouse and has since been transformed into a mixed cultural and commercial centre. The historic industrial architecture has been carefully preserved and defines the character of the entire site. If you have a soft spot for authentic urban architecture, you'll find a genuine piece of Palma's built history here.
What to Expect
The centre is home to a cinema that screens films in their original language — including independent and arthouse productions that you simply won't find anywhere else on the island. Alongside that, there's a library offering a quiet spot to read or work, an Eroski supermarket, several bars, a municipal citizens' advice office (OAC) and a health centre (PAC). Concerts and other events take place here too.
The Food Court — Then and Now
S'Escorxador was once well known for its lively food market with a wide variety of street food stalls. That offering fell away during the pandemic and has not yet reopened. Today, the bars and outdoor terraces form the gastronomic heart of the centre.
Location & Getting Here
The centre is located at Carrer Ciutat de Quilmes 3 in the Nord district of Palma. A car park sits directly in front of the building, though spaces can sometimes be in short supply. Accessible parking bays are available.
