Description

The De Haan Gallery Studio in Deià brings together a contemporary ceramics gallery, a working pottery studio, and a programme of hands-on workshops.

Ceramics, gallery, and workshops all under one roof

The studio showcases contemporary ceramics while functioning as a fully active atelier. It is run by British-Spanish ceramicist Maria De Haan, who is known for her smoke-fired vessels and contemporary forms. Drawing inspiration from natural shapes and textures — particularly those she encounters underwater — her work moves between elegance and expressive force. De Haan discovered clay in 2005, trained under master potters Simon Leach and Anna Silverton, completed a two-year residency with artist Mike Goddard on the island of Bequia in the West Indies, and later ran her own ceramics studio in London before relocating to Mallorca in 2015.

Workshops with international guest tutors

Pottery workshops held at the studio form a central part of what's on offer, catering to a range of experience levels — from intermediate courses through to advanced programmes. Guest tutors bring their own ceramic traditions with them: Roz Wallis has led multi-day intensives on themes such as moon vessels and form-and-vessel work; Douglas Black, whose practice connects to Japanese ceramic traditions in Mashiko, and Marco Minetti, who brings Korean Buncheong and Onggi craft, have both taught at the studio. Alongside these guest courses, the studio also hires out its space to external workshop leaders.

Where to find the studio

The studio is located at Carrer Arxiduc Luís Salvador 26 in the village of Deià, in the Serra de Tramuntana. The terrace looks out over the surrounding Deià countryside.
