EDAR 1 is a fully automated wastewater treatment plant in Palma with a treatment capacity of 46,000 m³ per day. It treats water from Playa de Palma, Sant Jordi, l’Aranjassa, el Pil·larí, Son Sant Joan airport and parts of Palma. The process includes five stages: pre-treatment, primary settling, a biological stage, tertiary treatment with sand and anthracite filters plus chlorine disinfection, and sludge treatment with thickeners, digesters and centrifuges. The plant is powered by electricity generated on site through cogeneration.
