The estate's roots stretch back to 1656, when the Marquis de la Fontsanta founded a monastery on his lands. From 1680 to 1835 it served as the residence of the Minim Friars, until Spain's disentailment laws — as they did for so many religious communities — forced the order to leave. Since then, the property has remained in the hands of the Marquis de la Fontsanta family. Today the complex comprises the convent house, landscaped gardens, a cloister and the church.
