El Fogon7 sits in Peguera not on the boulevard but one street behind it, on Carrer de les Gavines. You notice it the moment you sit down: the bustle of the promenade stays outside, and the terrace belongs to a side street where several places stand side by side. The house has been here since 2017, and it describes itself in a single sentence: meat from the Josper, hand-made pizza from the stone oven, and a wine selection alongside. It could hardly be shorter, and it still gets to the point. Two fires, two distinct hands, one house. Two ovens, two distinct hands A Josper is an enclosed charcoal oven. The heat builds inside the chamber, and the meat takes on crust and smoke without lying over an open flame for long. That is the standard the meat menu is held to here. Beef fillet and chuletón are among the dishes guests recommend most often, and so is the T-bone. If you would rather not have beef, the shoulder of suckling lamb is the dish that turns up most consistently in guest accounts, described by some as the most tender they have ever eaten. The second oven is the stone oven for the pizza. It does not tag along as a sideline to the meat programme; it stands as its own strand of the menu, hand-made and baked on stone. That a house with a charcoal oven takes this second craft seriously is what sets El Fogon7 apart from the pure steakhouses nearby. Rice, starters and the rest of the menu Paella is on the menu too, with a detail that is rare in the area: it can be ordered as a single portion. If you are travelling alone, or you are the only one at the table who wants rice, you do not have to talk the others into it. Before that come bread and alioli, which guests mention of their own accord. From the rest of the offering, mussels, prawn cocktail, pasta and grilled chicken turn up in guest accounts, along with a potato mash carrying a layer of cheese baked on top. To finish, it is usually the tiramisu. The kitchen also keeps vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free alternatives, and the staff know what they are talking about when someone flags coeliac disease, down to gluten-free beer in a clean glass of its own. El Fogon7 in Peguera: who the side street is worth it for The place fills up reliably, and reservations are taken and are the safer route to a table. Families with children and larger parties are catered for. Even a group of ten gets its plates together rather than one after another. The service is the part guests single out most: attentive, friendly, and with a memory for people who come back the following year. What comes out of that is not a destination you take the car for. It is the address you fall back on in Peguera when the meat has to be right and someone at the table would still rather have pizza or rice.
