Description
Especias Crespí is a time-honoured spice and speciality shop inside Palma's Mercat de l'Olivar, supplying Mallorcan spices and ingredients for local cuisine since 1945.
From Tap de Cortí to a World of Spice
The story of Especias Crespí begins in 1945, when brothers Joan and Jordi Crespí opened a shop on Carrer Vallori — originally focused entirely on products for making sobrasada, above all the Mallorcan red pepper known as Tap de Cortí, which gives sobrasada its characteristic colour. Over the decades, that founding specialism grew into a much broader range. Today the shop stocks spice blends for paella, meat dishes and broths, as well as Mallorcan sweet paprika (pimentón dulce mallorquín) that consistently catches visitors' eyes. If you fancy making your own sobrasada at home, the team are happy to advise on the right products, ingredients and each step of the process.
A Shop with Generations of Memory
For many people in Palma, Especias Crespí is not a new discovery — it is a place woven into family history. Longstanding customers recall their grandfathers shopping here back when the shop stood on Vía Sindicato. That deep-rooted identity as a trusted neighbourhood supplier remains at the heart of what the shop is today.
At the Heart of the Mercat de l'Olivar
The shop is located at Plaça de l'Olivar 4, in the Centre district of Palma, right inside the Mercat de l'Olivar. It sits perfectly alongside everything else the market has to offer — fresh fish can be picked up and even enjoyed on the spot.
