Excursión a Valldemossa
Description
The walking route between Deià and Valldemossa winds through the Serra de Tramuntana and is considered one of the most spectacular sections of the GR 221 on Mallorca.
The Route
The path connects Deià with Valldemossa and can be walked in either direction — though the descent from Valldemossa to Deià is generally considered considerably easier than tackling it the other way round. The route is officially graded as moderate (Grade 2). If you're taking it at your own pace with stops for photos, allow around five and a half hours. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
Terrain & Views
Sheer drops of hundreds of metres — at times only centimetres from the path — define the character of this walk, along with sweeping panoramas across the Tramuntana. The trail forms part of the GR 221 and is woven into the extensive walking network of the Serra de Tramuntana.
Navigation & Waymarking
Signposting along the route is inconsistent: several sections are tricky to follow, and the starting point within the village isn't always clearly marked either. A GPS track or a walking app such as Komoot is strongly recommended by experienced hikers. The walk should not be started in the late afternoon or evening.
Starting Point in Deià
The listed starting point is at Camí es Molí 4 in Deià, from where the route sets off towards Valldemossa.
