Description
The Ferrocarril de Sóller is a historic railway and tram service in Mallorca, linking Palma with Sóller and onwards to Port de Sóller.
A journey through the orange valley
Inaugurated in 1912, the railway line runs 27 km from Palma to Sóller through the Serra de Tramuntana. Along the way, the train passes orange and lemon groves, cuts through mountain tunnels, and offers sweeping panoramic views of the highland scenery. The lovingly preserved vintage wooden carriages give the journey the feel of a genuine step back in time.
On to Port de Sóller
At Sóller, you can hop onto a historic tram that continues down to Port de Sóller. The combined experience of train and tram is one of the great charms of this iconic route.
Rolling stock and condition
The rolling stock dates back to the railway's earliest days and is kept in excellent condition throughout — both inside and out. The snug compartments are every bit as characterful as the train's historic proportions suggest.
Location & getting there
The operator's registered address is Diseminado 5327, Sa Indioteria, 07009, Illes Balears. The line connects Palma with Sóller and Port de Sóller, with Bunyola also served along the route.
A handy tip
This is a popular journey — especially on days when cruise ships are in port, so expect larger crowds and queues. Booking in advance is strongly recommended.
