Description
The Fundació La Caixa is a cultural centre in Palma, housed in one of the city's most striking modernist buildings — the former Gran Hotel.
A Palace Steeped in History
The building on Plaça de Weyler dates back to 1903, when it first opened as a hotel. Designed by Catalan architect Domènech i Montaner, it stands as one of the most impressive examples of Modernisme in Mallorca. After a turbulent past — including a period of decline during the Civil War — it has been home to the La Caixa Foundation's cultural centre since 1993. Weekly slideshow presentations bring the history of the former hotel vividly to life.
Exhibitions, Workshops & More
The programme features exhibitions on contemporary Spanish art alongside rotating special shows — past themes have included comics and Pixar. Upstairs, regular workshops give visitors the chance to try their hand at a variety of printmaking and painting techniques. Admission is free.
Right in the Heart of Palma
The cultural centre sits at Plaça de Weyler 3 in the Centre district, right in the middle of Palma's city centre. There is also a café on site.
