Walking the GR-221
The GR-221 – also known as the Ruta de la Pedra en Sec – is a long-distance trail that traverses the Serra de Tramuntana across Mallorca, running from Port d'Andratx in the south-west all the way to Cap Formentor in the north-east. The Coll de sa Basseta section connects Valldemossa with Esporles and takes in several viewpoints along the way. The route is considered demanding and requires a good level of physical fitness.
Finding your way
Signposting along the trail is unreliable, so always carry a map loaded on a GPS device. Keep an eye out for small red paint dabs and stone cairns, which serve as the main navigation aids along the route.
Location & getting there
The starting point lies within the municipality of Esporles (Diseminado Pol 3, 83, 07190 Esporles). Parking nearby can be tricky, so if you're arriving by car it's worth planning to leave your vehicle a little further away and walk the remaining distance on foot.
