Description
Sa Foradada – Mallorcan for "the pierced one" – is a striking coastal rock formation near Deià, famous for the enormous natural hole punched through its peak.
The landmark: the pierced rock
The hole that gives Sa Foradada its name is the defining feature of this natural spot. The dramatic rock formation is visible both from the mirador above and from the sea, and it's the rugged coastal scenery – all towering cliffs and sculpted limestone – that draws people here. At the base, a small cove with crystal-clear water offers a lovely place for a swim.
Views & atmosphere
The viewpoint is renowned for its sunsets, and the panorama across the sea and the surrounding Serra de Tramuntana mountain landscape attracts visitors at any time of day. There's a bar right at the mirador where you can enjoy a drink while taking in the view of the rock and the water. As the spot grows in popularity, arriving early is a good idea – especially around sunset.
The path down
A wide gravel track leads from the car park down to the rock formation and the cove. The descent is steep and rocky, so sturdy footwear and plenty of water are strongly recommended. Dogs and bicycles are not permitted on the path. The route is not suitable for people with limited mobility. If you'd rather skip the walk, you can already see the hole in the rock from the mirador above – the hike down is entirely optional. Worth noting: access has occasionally been restricted due to high-wind warnings or a locked gate, so it's worth checking conditions before you make the trip.
Location & getting there
Sa Foradada lies within the municipality of Deià on Mallorca's west coast. The car park is situated near the manor house of Son Marroig and is paid parking. From the car park, it's roughly 150 metres on foot to the viewpoint.
