Description
The Institució Pública Antoni M. Alcover in Manacor is a public cultural institute and museum dedicated to the legacy of linguist and writer Antoni Maria Alcover i Sureda (1862–1932).
The Building and Its Collection
Housed in a beautifully preserved historic building, the institute combines original period furniture with wall displays inviting you to read Rondalles — traditional Mallorcan folk tales. At the heart of the exhibition is Alcover's linguistic work: his card-index system for systematising and preserving the Catalan language is particularly compelling to explore. The permanent exhibition is complemented by a library and a dedicated exhibition hall.
Cultural Programme & Events
The institution sees itself as an active platform for language, history and local culture. Its annual programme features concerts, theatre productions and other cultural events — including performances such as 'Qui dubta d'en Clint Eastwood?'. The generous inner courtyard provides space for open-air events, and guided tours make the linguistic and cultural heritage of the house accessible to all.
Getting There
The institute is located in the centre of Manacor at Carrer del Pare Andreu Fernández 12. You can find further information at institucioalcover.org.
