Jardín de La Misericordia
Description
The Jardín de La Misericordia is a public park and garden in the heart of Palma, forming part of the adjacent Centro Cultural La Misericordia.
The Ficus – the garden's centrepiece
Most visitors to the Jardín de La Misericordia come with one thing in mind: the magnificent ficus tree, whose aerial roots rise from the ground like natural supporting columns. This tree is the garden's defining feature and draws the eye from every angle. Its centuries-old roots form striking shapes that are impossible to walk past unmoved.
Shade, tranquillity and culture
The garden is a calm, well-kept retreat in the middle of the city, with benches, tables, chairs and sun loungers nestled beneath the dense canopy of ancient trees. It serves as a green stage for concerts, exhibitions, markets, workshops and seasonal events. A library also forms part of the cultural centre's ensemble.
The cistern – a hidden gem
Within the grounds lies the Aljub de la Misericòrdia, a historic underground cistern featuring remarkable architecture of arches and sandstone. Access is from the museum side, to the right of the garden: head up the ramp, pass through the museum and continue almost to the far end. Entry to the cistern is free of charge.
Location & getting here
The garden is located at Via Roma 1 in the Centre of Palma (07012). Admission is free.
