Jardines de la Cuarentena
Description
The Jardines de la Cuarentena is a park in the Ponent neighbourhood of Palma, with roots going back to a historic quarantine facility from the 17th century.
Green, shady and peaceful
Mediterranean vegetation, plenty of shade and benches for lingering give the park its character. Water features — a fountain, small ponds and a waterfall — provide a soothing backdrop. The path through the terraced grounds leads from the Avinguda de Gabriel Roca up towards El Terreno, offering views over the Bay of Palma along the way.
A historic past
The park's name points directly to its history: in 1656 a lazaretto was built here to quarantine those suspected of carrying disease. The original entrance gates of that facility have survived to this day.
Getting there
The park sits at Avinguda de Gabriel Roca 35A in the Ponent neighbourhood of Palma. It can be entered from the coastal road as well as from the El Terreno side.
Who it's great for
There's a play area for children, making it a good spot for families. If you're after a short stroll, a quiet rest or simply a shady seat, you'll find all of that here.
