Description

The Creu de Sant Salvador – also known as the Creu des Picot – is a historic stone cross standing at the summit of Puig de Sant Salvador near Felanitx in the south-east of Mallorca.

The Cross and Its Viewpoint

The 14-metre-tall cross was erected in 1957 on the summit of Es Picot and can be seen from miles around. From the cross, the panoramic views stretch across almost the entire island – on a clear day you can see all the way to the coast and deep into the interior. The sweeping 360-degree views over the sea and rolling hills are one of the main reasons visitors make their way up to the summit at around 510 metres above sea level.

Getting There and the Ascent

The road up from Felanitx winds along a twisting mountain road that is extremely narrow in places and demands full attention – oncoming vehicles can appear suddenly around tight bends. The summit can also be reached on foot or by bike; the climb is a genuine physical challenge, though the scenery makes every bit of effort worthwhile. From the small car park right by the cross, the summit itself is just a short walk away.

The Monastery and Surroundings

The cross sits just below the Sant Salvador monastery, which crowns the same ridge. From the cross you can walk straight on to the monastery complex, which includes a church. A large statue of Christ also stands on this hillside and forms part of the wider ensemble. Souvenirs are available in the area around the church.

Location

The Creu de Sant Salvador is located near Felanitx (07208) in the south-east of Mallorca. Free parking is available at the summit and at the monastery car park, including accessible spaces. Additional free on-street parking can be found nearby.
