Description

La Gran Tortuga is a Mediterranean restaurant in Peguera, and with its terrace position overlooking the Bay of Paguera, it's one of the most distinctive addresses on this stretch of coastline.

Mediterranean cuisine with a sea view

The menu takes its cues from the Mediterranean: paella — including seafood paella and vegetable paella — sits alongside fresh fish and shellfish. Squid, mussels, prawns, lobster and locally caught fish are among the regular offerings. The restaurant opened in 1974 and owes its name to an anecdote involving architect Pedro Otzoup, who designed the Cala Fornells complex. Fishermen from Paguera harbour brought the construction workers fresh fish every day — and one day arrived with a surprise tortoise in tow, which gave Otzoup the inspiration for the name.

Terrace and views

Situated on the Carretera de Cala Fornells, the restaurant offers a panoramic view across the bay from its terrace. The atmosphere up here, particularly as the sun goes down, is genuinely special. The overall mood is calm and relaxed, with gentle background music to set the scene.
