Le Carac - Brunch, Coffee & Cake

Le Carac in Cala Millor is a brunch café with its own patisserie attached, and that order is the right one: the display counter here is not a sideline, it is half the reason to come. Jerry and Cassie, both from French-speaking Switzerland, have run the place on Avinguda del Bon Temps as a pair since 2020. The concept is unfussy and fairly consistent: pastelería and cafetería in one, with a card that covers two directions at once between breakfast and early afternoon. If you want to start savoury, there are salty pancakes, toasts and bowls. If you came for cake, there is cake. Coffee is not an afterthought here but treated as speciality coffee. The fact that two people run this without a large team shows in one rather likeable way: things do sell out. Fresh means genuinely fresh in this shop, and what is gone is gone. The Counter at Le Carac Cassie is a trained pastry chef, and that is the difference between a cake shelf and what stands here. Fruit tarts, carrot cake, cheesecake, brownies, banana bread and chocolate éclairs belong to the fixed repertoire, alongside cookies, filled croissants and loaf cakes. Croissants come fresh out of the oven, and the almond croissant is one of the house classics. Custom cakes are a chapter of their own. Cassie builds character cakes with figures and applied pictures, birthday cakes that are an order rather than counter stock. If you want one, raise it in advance: this is handwork, not a daily item. Pancakes, Bowls and Savoury Brunch The pancakes are what most people come back for, and they run in both directions, sweet and salty, with salmon or with ham and cheese. Next to them sits a toast section with avocado, hummus or burrata, plus bowls from the protein bowl to the smoothie bowl, and breakfast platters with fried egg. Vegetarian is not a special case here but built in throughout, and vegan stays more than a fallback. To drink: cappuccino, vanilla latte, cold coffee specialities for warm days, frappés, smoothies and iced matcha. Much of it travels too, since Le Carac hands out food and drinks to take away. Jerry and Cassie Two people, one shop, no kitchen brigade. The two came from the Romandie to Mallorca and turned a small place on Bon Temps into one of the better-known breakfast addresses on the east coast. The tone follows from that: personal, without service choreography, and you are served by the same faces that do the baking. In high season the room fills quickly, mornings especially. If you want a seat for certain, book ahead. Inside is good in winter, and there are a few tables outside in the sun. Around Cala Millor Cala Millor sits on the east coast, belongs to the municipality of Son Servera and is known above all for its long sandy beach and its unbroken promenade. Avinguda del Bon Temps runs a couple of streets back from the water, in the northern part of town, where things quieten down towards Cala Bona. That makes the café a practical first stop: breakfast, then down to the beach, or the other way round with a coffee in a cup to carry onto the promenade. If you want to go further, the Punta de n'Amer headland lies to the south and the fishing harbour of Cala Bona to the north.
