Description

The Monasterio de Lluc is a pilgrimage monastery nestled in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana and is regarded as the most important spiritual destination on the island.

Faith, History and Music

At the heart of the monastery is the veneration of the Mare de Déu de Lluc, a statue of the Virgin Mary known as the Black Madonna, which holds pride of place on the altar of the basilica. The basilica itself is a striking example of Renaissance architecture. The monastery is also home to the Escolania de Blauets, a boys' choir that takes its name from the traditional blue robes worn by its members.

Botanical Garden and Grounds

Behind the monastery complex lies a botanical garden that is well worth exploring in its own right. The expansive grounds also make an excellent starting point for walking routes in the surrounding area. For those who wish to stay longer, overnight accommodation is available within the monastery, with rooms that are simply but comfortably furnished. There is also a swimming pool, which is open to day visitors as well.

Location in the Serra de Tramuntana

The monastery is situated at Plaza Pelegrins 1 in Lluc i Son Macip, deep within the Tramuntana mountains. Getting here from the coastal towns involves a considerable drive, though Lluc is reachable by public bus from Port de Pollença. On-site parking is available for a fee, and entry to the monastery museum is also charged separately.
