Description

The Museu Històric Militar de Sant Carles is a military museum set within a historic fortress in Palma, displaying weapons, dioramas and exhibitions dedicated to the island's military history.

Collection and Exhibitions

At the heart of the museum lies an extensive collection of military artefacts: cannons, firearms, and edged weapons such as blades and daggers, alongside dioramas that bring various eras to life. The exhibition rooms are organised thematically by weapon type and cover military events across Mallorca and the Balearic Islands. You'll also find pieces from further afield — including Moroccan muskets and Asian and African blades. Additional rooms are devoted to temporary exhibitions, such as the history of the Infantería de Marina. The collection is well preserved and presented in a clear, accessible way.

The Fortress and the Views

The fortress itself is very much part of the experience. Historic artillery pieces are displayed across the open grounds, sculptures invite you to linger, and from the ramparts you're treated to sweeping views over the Bay of Palma and the harbour. The walls, terraces and battlements offer plenty of great spots for photography.

On-Site Dining

Within the museum grounds there is a café and refreshment area with a terrace, where you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat with views out over the sea.

Location and Getting There

The museum is located in the Ponent district at Carretera Dic de l'Oest, s/n, 07015 Palma. Free parking is available directly on site and is fully accessible.
