Platja de Cala Fornells
Description
Platja de Cala Fornells is a small, rock-fringed bay on Mallorca, lined with fragrant pine trees.
Water and Natural Setting
The water at Cala Fornells is crystal clear with a striking blue-turquoise hue, offering excellent visibility down to the fish darting below the surface. The rocky coastline and surrounding pines frame the bay beautifully. It's a great spot for snorkelling — you can enter the water directly from the rocks or via a concreted area fitted with steps.
Beach and Facilities
The sandy beach is on the small side. There's a section where you can hire sunbeds and parasols, as well as a free area where you're welcome to set up your own. Showers and toilets are not available at the beach. Along the promenade you'll find a set of outdoor fitness equipment.
Location and Getting There
The bay sits within easy reach of several hotels and restaurants. Parking immediately beside the beach is limited, though there is a free car park a short distance from the bay. If you're leaving belongings unattended — particularly close to the road — it's worth keeping an eye on your things, as the odd theft has been reported.
Atmosphere and Visitor Tips
Cala Fornells has a noticeably quieter feel than many of the island's larger beaches. That said, its compact size means it can fill up quickly at weekends and during peak season. In late autumn the bay falls into shade from early afternoon, so if you're after the sun it's best to arrive in the morning.
