Platja de Formentor
Description
Platja de Formentor is a sandy beach in the north of Mallorca, nestled in a crescent-shaped bay on the Formentor Peninsula, within the municipality of Pollença.
Water, Sand and Pine Trees
What makes Platja de Formentor so special is the combination of turquoise, crystal-clear water and the natural shade cast by the pine forests lining the beach. The water is calm and clear enough to see the seabed — a bonus for swimmers and snorkellers alike. The eastern, slightly rockier part of the bay is particularly well suited to snorkelling. The upper sunbathing areas are largely shaded by the pines.
Getting There and Parking
Access by car is managed: in Pollença there is a barrier with traffic lights and signage in place. Parking close to the beach is limited and subject to a charge. Alternatively, the bay is reachable by bus (line 334) as well as by ferry or boat from Port de Pollença and Alcúdia.
Practical Information
Sun loungers and parasols are available to hire on the beach; if you'd rather avoid the cost, simply bring your own gear. The same applies to food — eating on-site can be pricey, so packing your own provisions is a popular choice. On busy days the beach fills up well before midday, so an early start is well worth it.
Who Is It Suited To?
The beach is a great choice for families with children, as the water is shallow and calm. The pine trees provide natural shade, which is especially welcome on hot days. Snorkellers will find good conditions in the rockier section of the bay.
