Platja de Formentor
Description
Platja de Formentor is a sandy beach in the municipality of Pollença in the north of Mallorca, nestled in a bay between wooded hillsides and clear turquoise water.
Water, Sand and Shade
The beach delivers on every front: white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water and natural shade from pine trees. The sea is calm and shallow enough to wade out a long way, making it a great spot for children. You can spot fish in the water, which makes it well worth packing a snorkel.
Facilities on the Beach
You'll find showers, toilets and a beach bar on site, as well as a larger restaurant. Sun loungers and parasols are available to hire — two loungers including a parasol typically come to around €35. The bay is designated as a supervised bathing beach.
Location and Getting There
The beach sits along Carrer de Formentor, 07460 Pollença. The drive along the mountain road offers sweeping views of the sierra and the bay. Both free and paid parking are available; the free car park is on the left as you enter, and from there it's a few hundred metres' walk to the beach. The beach is also reachable by public bus — the journey itself is something of an attraction. In high summer the car parks fill up fast, and access to the peninsula is closed off once capacity is reached. Day-trippers can also arrive directly by boat, as excursion vessels pull in right at the beach.
When to Visit
Early in the morning the beach is peaceful and almost entirely crowd-free. As the day progresses, visitor numbers rise noticeably once boats arrive and the car park fills up. If you're after the tranquillity of the bay, mornings or a visit outside the peak season will serve you well.
