Description

Platja de Na Ferradura is a small, horseshoe-shaped cove in Cala Ratjada, right on the seafront promenade and one of Mallorca's best-known dog-friendly beaches.

A compact cove with crystal-clear water

Na Ferradura is a narrow bay with a mix of sand, fine shingle and flat rock slabs that slope into beautifully clear water. The seabed is stony in places, so water shoes are a good idea when wading in. The water itself is wonderfully transparent, making it a lovely spot for swimming and snorkelling.

Cala Ratjada's official dog-friendly beach

Na Ferradura is officially designated as a dog-friendly beach. Dogs are welcome to run freely and swim, provided they are sociable with other animals — as noted on the local signage. Bins for waste bags are provided on site, and the cove is a popular meeting point for dog owners both from the local area and on holiday.

Location & getting there

The beach sits in Cala Ratjada, in the municipality of Capdepera (07590), directly on the seafront promenade and accessible via steps from the Avinguda d'Amèrica. Parking is available in the surrounding streets, and restaurants, bars and shops are all close by.

Atmosphere & practicalities

The cove is small and can get busy — arriving early in the morning is the best way to enjoy a quieter visit. Stone benches and steps provide somewhere to sit. There are no toilet facilities or changing rooms on site. Access to the water is not wheelchair-friendly, requiring steps and rocks, which may make it tricky for some visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can dogs really run off the lead?
Yes. The on-site sign confirms that dogs have priority here and are free to roam off the lead, as long as they are friendly with other dogs. Bins for waste bags are provided.
How do I get to the beach?
The beach is reached via steps from the Avinguda d'Amèrica on the Cala Ratjada seafront promenade. Parking is available in the surrounding streets.
Is the beach suitable for families with children?
It is generally family-friendly, though the seabed is stony in places and access is via steps. Families with very young children may find the sandy beach further south more convenient.
