Description

The Plaza de Toros de Palma – also known as the Coliseo Balear – is a historic bullring dating from 1929 in Palma, now a vibrant setting for concerts, live music and cultural events.

Architecture and Appearance

The circular structure from 1929 impresses with its solid, elegant façade that never fails to remind visitors of a miniature Colosseum. Even from the outside, the arena makes for a striking subject for photography – its walls and arches leave a lasting impression. The building stands on Avenida Gaspar de Bennazar, named after the architect who designed it. It is worth noting, however, that maintenance and restoration fall short in places.

Concerts, Cultural Festivals and Bullfights

The arena has become a go-to stage for live music and cultural festivals, with acoustics that feel surprisingly good and intimate, and sightlines that are unobstructed from virtually every seat. Occasional bullfights also continue to take place. During the Open House architecture festival – held in November – guided tours of the building are offered in Spanish and English.

Location and Getting There

The arena is located at Av. Gaspar de Bennazar 32 in Palma. Parking immediately nearby is limited, so if you're arriving by car it's worth allowing a little extra time to find a space.
