Description

Puig de na Penyal is a hilltop viewpoint and walking destination near Son Servera in the north-east of Mallorca.

The Summit and the View

Make it to the top and you'll be rewarded with a full 360-degree panorama: from the summit of Puig de na Penyal, the views sweep across Cala Millor, Cala Bona and the surrounding coastline all the way out to the turquoise Mediterranean.

The Path and the Vegetation

The ascent follows a rocky, informal trail through scrub and bushes — not a maintained gravel path. Along the way you'll spot strawberry trees, cacti and prickly pears, among other plants. Sturdy footwear is absolutely essential; the path narrows in places and you may need to steady yourself with your hands at certain points. Take extra care on the way back down, as the trail can be slippery.

The Cave Below the Summit

Just below the summit there's a cave well worth the short detour. The turn-off is marked by a wooden post. It's not immediately obvious, but follow the directions carefully and you'll find it reliably.

Location and Getting There

Puig de na Penyal lies within the municipality of Son Servera (07550). The recommended starting point for the summit trail is the car park by the tennis courts (Bella Vista Tennis), where both free and paid parking spaces are available.

Who Is It Suitable For?

The climb is manageable for sure-footed walkers, but it does require a reasonable level of fitness and proper footwear. Sporty children of around seven and above should be fine; it is not recommended for older adults or very young children. Wearing long trousers will protect your legs from scratches caused by branches and undergrowth.
