Puig De Sant Martí, South Peak
Description
Puig de Sant Martí (South Peak) is a walking and climbing destination near Alcúdia, rising sharply from the surrounding plain and offering sweeping panoramic views across the nearby bays and the sea.
A Mountain with Character
Puig de Sant Martí stands out strikingly from its flat surroundings thanks to its cone-like shape — not unlike a volcanic plug, though without a crater. The rock is limestone. Once you reach the summit, the reward is pure, unspoilt nature: the top is completely undeveloped, the atmosphere calm and open, and the wind gives it a genuine mountain feel.
Views & Experience
The panoramic view from the summit stretches across two bays, the sea, and the island's interior — for many, that vista is the whole point of the climb. The mountain is also used for paragliding. Keep your eyes and ears open on the way up and you're likely to encounter wildlife and the characteristic sounds of the Mallorcan countryside.
The Ascent & What to Expect
The final stretch to the summit is steep and rocky — sure-footedness is essential, as there is no marked path and you'll need to pick your own route towards the top. Part of the route runs across paved, tree-free terrain, which can get very warm in the sun. There are straightforward routes for beginner climbers. Good footwear and plenty of water are strongly recommended.
Location & Surroundings
The mountain lies within the municipality of Alcúdia (07400) and can be reached on foot from Platja de Alcúdia. Signage is sparse, so a good sense of direction on the ground is helpful.
