Description
Puig del Calvari is a scenic stairway climb leading to a hilltop chapel and viewpoint in Pollença, in the north of Mallorca.
The Climb
A picturesque stairway winds its way up to a small chapel and the Mirador del Calvari. Cypress trees, little houses and shops line the steps on either side — a scene that many visitors find almost painterly. At the top, a sweeping panorama over Pollença awaits, stretching all the way to the sea on a clear day. Right beside the chapel, you'll find a dedicated viewpoint platform.
Steps, Chapel & Summit
The exact number of steps is debated — 365 is the figure most commonly cited, one for every day of the year. At the top, a very small chapel awaits, along with a little café where you can treat yourself to a refreshment after the climb. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the ascent.
Getting There
The foot of the stairway is located at Carrer del Calvari 36 in Pollença. If you'd rather not tackle the steps, the summit area can also reportedly be reached via a narrow winding road.
Atmosphere & Surroundings
The whole site has a calm, unhurried feel. Small shops and cafés dot the lower sections of the steps, and you'll also spot sculptures dotted along the way. There's very little shade at midday, so an early visit is particularly worthwhile.
