Description
The Refuge Puig de Maria is a place to stay perched atop the hill of the same name above Pollença — set within a historic former monastery that can only be reached on foot.
Staying & Eating at the Summit
The refuge offers simple, clean rooms that retain the authentic character of the old monastery. Staying the night here genuinely means sleeping in history. Food is cooked on the premises, with homemade paella as the signature dish, alongside cakes, desserts and drinks. There is also a barbecue area on site, as well as picnic tables where day visitors are welcome to enjoy their own provisions.
The Ascent
The path up Puig de Maria is a steep cobbled track — sturdy footwear is an absolute must. Setting off from the large car park in Pollença, the walk takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes. The climb is moderate in difficulty; some visitors find it quite demanding, others manage it comfortably. Bringing plenty of water is strongly recommended.
Location & Surroundings
The refuge sits on Puig de Maria near Pollença in the north-east of Mallorca, at an altitude of around 320 metres. The address is Mirador del Molí Vell, 07460 Pollença. From the top, you are rewarded with a panoramic view in every direction — including sweeping vistas across the north of the island and over the Bay of Pollença.
